Statesman Journal: Two Valley Ranches Earn Label for Humane Animal Treatment

Anderson Ranches Oregon Lamb and Knee Deep Cattle Co. have been approved to use the designation by Humane Farm Animal Care. The nonprofit group is supported by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Humane Society of the United States.

Anderson Ranches raises lambs near Brownsville. Knee Deep produces grass-fed beef in the Coburg area.

The “Certified Humane Raised and Handled” label, introduced in 2003, assures consumers that a meat, poultry, egg or dairy product has been produced according to a set of standards for humane treatment.

In addition, animals must not be fed antibiotics or hormones.
