A Crunchy New Snack You’ll Love

April 10, 2013 | By Maggie Shi

Move over, wasabi peas—I’ve found something even better. I recently sampled Saffron Road’s crunchy chickpeas in three different flavors—Bombay Spice, Falafel, and yes, Wasabi. The Wasabi definitely packs a big punch of heat (I was pleasantly surprised), Bombay Spice boasts a tongue-tingling blend of paprika, garlic, onion, and turmeric, and Falafel—my favorite—has a nice balance of heat along with traditional Middle Eastern spices. Best of all, they’re made with organic chickpeas, don’t contain any GMO ingredients, and include 6 grams of protein per serving.

What I especially like about these snacks is the philosophy behind Saffron Road products; besides the crunchy chickpeas, the company also offers frozen meals and ready-made sauces, all with an international spin (think Moroccan, Indian, and Thai). They use meats that are antibiotic-free and Certified Humane®, they’re committed to sustainable farming, and they support local and family-owned farms. It’s great to see a company providing a solution for quick, easy meals and snacks that supports sustainability, animal welfare, and diversity, too. I’ll feel a little less guilty reaching for one of Saffron Road’s products when I can’t eat something fresh.

You can buy Saffron Road’s crunchy chickpeas here; they’re $4.70 for a 6-ounce package.
