Buying meat that you can trust for the safety of your family and well-being of the planet gets easier with this new mobile tool.

I support Certified Humane® food products. The designation assures me that meat, poultry, egg or dairy products are produced following precise standards for humane farm animal treatment outlined by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), a non-profit certification organization. These standards include ensuring animals receive a nutritious diet without antibiotics or hormones and that they’re raised with shelter, resting areas and enough space to roam. If we’re going to change the face of our food system by reforming industrialized agriculture and producing safer, better-tasting products, this is the way to do it.

Though the HFAC only launched the program in 2003, today more than 90 companies, representing hundreds of farms and millions of farm animals, have been certified. Even with this success, Certified Humane® products aren’t always easy to find in grocery stores. During my weekly trips to natural stores in the Boulder area, the Certified Humane® Tag appears on only a handful of offerings. Choosing a store that carries a Certified Humane® option for a product on my shopping list has really been luck of the draw—that is, until now.

Today HFAC debuted a new Certified Humane® App available for iPhone and Android users that not only helps consumers find stores that carry Certified Humane® products but also tells them exactly what products are available in a particular store.

“With over 7,000 supermarkets across the country selling products that are Certified Humane® consumers should be able to find products wherever they are,” said Adele Douglass, HFAC Founder and CEO. “This tool connects consumers and businesses by providing consumers with what they have been asking us for, ‘at- their- fingertips access’ and rewards retailers who carry Certified Humane® products with more business.”

The app uses GPS to identify nearby retailers and displays them in an interactive map. Users can also search for specific locations as well.

In addition to finding mainstream supermarkets that sell Certified Humane® products, users can also find farmers and ranchers that sell directly to consumers using the “buy online” button, according to a release. This is a great way for retailers to connect with producers to get more Certified Humane® products in stores. For consumers, buying meat that you can trust for the safety of your family and well-being of the planet, just got a whole lot easier.

To download the app, go to the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android, search for Certified Humane, download and open.
