Mind and Matter

This past spring, entrepreneur Will Harris III, owner of White Oak Pastures, won The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Best Small Business Person of the Year award for the state of Georgia. One small business person is selected from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

White Oak Pastures is a large producer of organic, grass-fed cattle.  For fellow Georgians, it’s also local, located in Bluffton, Georgia, just south of Columbus. White Oak Pastures has also been qualified by Certified Humane, one of my personal favorite farm certification organizations.  Certified Humane lays out and reviews detailed regulations for all aspects of raising and slaughtering animals for consumption.

Will Harris’ family has been in the beef business for five generations. They are currently the largest certified organic farm in Georgia. Last year, they installed the largest solar barn in the US. Their products can be found at Publix and Whole Foods.
