Surfing Goat Dairy is the first Hawaii-based livestock producer to receive Humane Farm Animal Care’s Certified Humane Raised and Handled label.

Surfing Goat Dairy on Maui now also has the distinction of becoming the first Hawaii-based producer to receive the Certified Humane Raised and Handled label from Virginia-based nonprofit group Humane Farm Animal Care.

Dawn is just breaking as a group of local chefs gather in a parking lot south of Atlanta, where a tour bus idles.  Before the day ends, they will travel 400 miles, shoot skeet as the temperature blazes toward 95 degrees, chow down on two-inch-thick burgers and retrace the path of that meat from cattle grazing on nearby pastures to an on-farm slaughterhouse that’s the main attraction on this trip.

An Upcountry Maui dairy farm is receiving certification from the Humane Farm Animal Care for the way it treats its livestock.
