Adele Douglass Honored by ASPCA

Every day throughout the country, millions of farm animals have a more humane life because of one woman’s crusade – Adele Douglass, Executive Director and Founder of Humane Farm Animal Care and the “Certified Humane Raised and Handled” label.

Douglass, 59, began her career as former New York Congressman Bill Green’s staffer in charge of animal welfare issues. She then became the American Humane Association’s director of public policy, where she lobbied for two of the nation’s most vulnerable populations: animals and children.

Douglass’ experiences taught her that the marketplace was the quickest way to effect change. In 2000, she launched a stateside version of an RSPCA program that set the standards for humane animal husbandry as well as encouraged market changes.
