Pete and Gerry’s Organics, LLC, producer of Certified Humane® egg brands Pete and Gerry’s Organic and Nellie’s Free Range, today announced its egg donation program, which will provide dozens of food banks throughout the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern regions of the U.S. with a weekly supply of fresh, Free-Range, Certified Humane eggs.
The program is already off to a strong start, with more than five million eggs donated to nine food banks throughout six states in June alone.
“As the first farm business in the U.S. to become B-Corp Certified, we are committed to using the power of business to impact social problems,” said Jesse Laflamme, CEO and owner. “We know the need at food banks across the country is high, and providing our food bank partners with eggs is just one small way we can make a difference in our communities.”
Pete and Gerry’s brands support a network of more than 120 small family farms to supply its eggs and has stayed true to its commitment to source eggs from only humanely treated, free range hens.
“Food Bank For New York City is very appreciative of this generous donation from Pete and Gerry’s, and we are thrilled to have them onboard as partners in our mission to end hunger,” said Margarette Purvis, President and CEO of Food Bank For New York City. “Every day we strive to ensure dignity and nutrition are in great supply at our city’s soup kitchens and food pantries. Donations of organic eggs are extra special because while they may be a staple in the American diet, they’re one of the rarest items to be donated for families living in poverty. This donation and partnership will make a significant impact for the 1.5 million New Yorkers and 1000 charities we serve.”
Recipients to date include NH Food Bank, VT Food Bank, Food Bank for NYC, Central PA Food Bank, The Food Bank of Eastern New York, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Lancaster Food Bank, Good Shephard Food Bank of Maine, Willing Hands of NH & VT.
“As our business and distribution expands, we hope to be able to add even more food banks to our donation program,” said Laflamme.
