(HERNDON, VA, USA) June 8, 2017 – Oath Craft Pizza, a Massachusetts-based pizza chain, is the first pizza chain in the nation to receive Humane Farm Animal Care’s (HFAC) Certified Humane® approval, which will apply to their North Country Smokehouse Sweet Italian Sausage, Pederson’s Natural Farms Uncured Natural Bacon and Pederson’s Natural Farms Rotisserie Chicken.
“When you think ethically-sourced food, you may not always think pizza, but that’s something we are working hard to change,” says Patrik Hellstrand, CEO of Oath Craft Pizza. “We’re sourcing ingredients free from chemical additives, hormones and antibiotics because we’re committed to doing the right thing for our customers and the food system. Buying products from and supporting the farmers who meet Certified Humane’s farm animal care standards is an essential part of our company’s business model.”
HFAC’s Certified Humane® program provides humane standards of care for farm animal treatment, which includes feeding animals a diet without antibiotics or hormones, providing farm animals with proper shelter and resting areas, and creating space and environmental enrichments to support an animal’s natural behaviors, like flapping wings or rooting.
HFAC also conducts third-party farm inspections to ensure compliance, and encourages consumers to support these farmers by looking for the Certified Humane Raised and Handled® label in grocery stores and at restaurants.
“Consumers want to know their food is humanely-raised,” says Adele Douglass, Executive Director for HFAC. “So, we’re excited to see the commitment Oath Craft Pizza is taking to ethically-source their food and give consumers these assurances.”
Oath Craft Pizza currently operates four stores in Boston, one in Nantucket, and has plans to open another eight in the northeast by early next year. For more information, visit www.OathPizza.com.
Headquartered in Herndon, Virginia, HFAC is the leading international non-profit certification organization improving the lives of farm animals in food production. More than 665 million farm animals have been Certified Humane Raised and Handled® since launching in 2002.
