Top Grocery Retailers: The Oscar Goes To…
This Sunday, the 87th Academy Awards will honor the best films of 2014.
But not before Humane Farm Animal Care steps up to the stage to shine a spotlight on a few retail super stars that are making a difference in the lives of farm animals.
Because we believe the best way to help farm animals is through the marketplace, we’re giving “Oscars” to those grocery retailers that show their commitment to animal welfare by buying and selling Certified Humane® products in their stores.
The envelope please…and the Oscar goes to…
Most Committed Retailer
Sobeys
Sobeys is the only major retailer to sell beef, pork and poultry in their stores that are required to be Certified Humane®. We give this super star grocery chain two big thumbs up!
Best Performance in a Supporting Role
Safeway Inc.
Safeway is the first major grocery retailer in the U.S. to require all of its cage-free eggs become Certified Humane®. Safeway’s certification has had a major impact on improving the humane treatment of laying hens in the U.S. Their leadership is unparalleled in the retail ood industry and is hopefully an exciting preview of more to come!
Haggen
Based in Washington State, Haggen sells many Certified Humane® products in their stores. They just acquired 146 stores in an Albertsons-Safeway merger, which means this coming sequel could be a huge blockbuster next year!
Honorable Mentions
D’Agostino (New York City) – Always an Academy favorite, D’Agostino’s big apple locations have been selling Certified Humane® products since 2004.
Harris Teeter (North Carolina to the District of Columbia) – While Harris Teeter might only be in select states, their east coast fans appreciate the variety of Certified Humane® products they carry.
Whole Foods fans can find a variety of Certified Humane® products in all of their U.S. stores.
Best New Product Category
Open Farm
Open Farm received their Certified Humane® certification in 2014 for the first dry dog food line built on the belief that the best ingredients are grown and raised by farmers who respect the land and animals under their care. Their Certified Humane® products previewed in Canada to thunderous applause. We highly-expect this must-buy product to be a runaway hit in select pet stores in the U.S. by April 2015.
Now Certified Humane® fans, here’s your chance to give an “Oscar” to your local supermarket or help them learn how they can join the star-studded line up of retailers carrying Certified Humane® products in their stores.
If your store does carry Certified Humane® products, let them know you shop there because they stock these products. Download a Certified Humane® Comment Card and bring it to the customer service desk or drop it in their customer comment box.
If your store does not stock Certified Humane® products, download a “product request” form to give to your local store manager.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of farm animals!
