Prather Ranch Meat Company sells certified organic beef raised in Siskiyou, Shasta, Tehama and Colusa counties by the Prather Ranch.
The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall toured the San Francisco Bay Area as part of their United States visit, including producers of organic and sustainable food.
Prince Charles, a supporter of organic food production, was impressed with how Prather Ranch raises their organic beef and the certified humane handling of their livestock, according to a press release from Prather Ranch.
Prince Charles questioned Doug Stonebreaker, manager of Prather Ranch Meat Company, at length about the ranch’s husbandry practices and what makes their operation so distinctive. He also liked the fact that the Prather Ranch raises Hereford and Angus cattle, which are English breeds of cattle.
Prather Ranch, a vertically integrated cattle and hay operation, was recognized in 2004 with the Governor’s Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership, the Beef Federation’s 2005 Commercial Producer of the Year Award and the Region VI Environmental Stewardship Award for 2005 awarded by the National Cattlemen’s Association.
In southern Siskiyou County, Prather Ranch meats are available at Keith’s Meats in Mount Shasta.
