“The best burgers I’ve ever had,” said Chris Fryxell of Windsor as he dined on a burger at Plan B’s ribbon cutting ceremony.
Founded in 2006 in the Hartford area on the principle of great burgers and good booze, the upscale burger bar known as Plan B is now in Milford.

“We are looking forward to opening in Milford. We chose Milford due to the demographics and location. We want to offer Plan B throughout the state and this is a gateway to Stamford which we hope to open in the fall,” said Allie Gamble, owner and founder of Plan B Burger Bar.

What sets Plan B apart is its commitment to use meat that is never fed antibiotics, animal by-products, hormones and is free-range, Gamble said. The restaurant group is the first in the country to be Certified Humane Raised & Handled by Humane Farm Animal Care.

One patron, Lenore Genova-Irvington of New York, said of the new establishment, “It is a hot and exciting variation of food.”

“Venues are usually the same throughout but when you walk into this restaurant, each section is different, from casual to more formal. The lighting is incredible and this definitely has a high-end, New York look to it,” Genova-Irvington went on to say.

“The atmosphere is family friendly but will be open to a neighborhood nightlife during the evening,” said Skye MacBroom, a publicist based in Wolcott.

“All of the Plan B restaurants feature local produce to ensure our commitment to freshness and to the surrounding communities. We actually go out and meet with the farmers,” MacBroom said.

Fans of Paul’s Famous Hamburgers — a fixture in Milford for 62 years — will be pleased to know that, like Paul’s, Plan B’s whole chuck meat is ground in-house daily. For those who do not eat meat, homemade veggie burgers are on the menu.

What’s on the Menu?
Besides beef and veggie, burgers also come in natural chicken and turkey. They will average $12 a plate and come with fancy fries or mixed greens. There is also every topping you can imagine, from fried egg to lobster with smoked gouda.

The menu doesn’t stop there. If you aren’t in the mood for a burger, try a “big plate” of Shepard’s Pie or Horseradish Salmon, or snack on buffalo shrimp, which come in mild, hot or insane, or Beef Wellington Bites.

If you happen to have room for dessert, there are five options, including Plan B’s spin on the FunniBone, a homemade double chocolate cake filled with peanut butter ganache.

In addition to the full menu, a happy hour menu that includes appetizer specials and $3 bourbon nips of the week and house wine, will be offered from 3 to 6 p.m. A late night menu will be available from 10 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Plan B was set to open in July but had some setbacks, including losing power during the hurricane. An official opening date has been set for Monday, Sept. 12.

“I don’t think I have ever encountered a town as helpful and welcoming as Milford throughout our whole process,” said Lena DiGenti, director of branding at Plan B.

Plan B is located in The Milford Crossings Shopping Plaza at 1638 Boston Post Road.
