Food Emporium in NY & CT

Humane Farm Animal Care® (HFAC) announces the availability of duBreton pork products and Murray’s chicken products at all Food emporium stores in New York and Connecticut.

HFAC’s Certified Humane Raised and Handled program is the only farm animal welfare and food labeling program in the U.S. dedicated to improving the lives of farm animals from birth through slaughter. This means that all animals raised under the program were brought up in an environment with ample fresh water and a healthy diet of quality feed, without added antibiotics or hormones.

New to Food Emporium, duBreton (www.dubreton.com) has been certified as a humane provider of pork products since 2004. The Canadian company provides case ready Certified Humane bone-in, boneless pork chops, pork scaloppini, pork kebab cubes and baby back ribs to the gourmet grocer that are ideal for grilling.

As the first poultry processor in America to earn the Certified Humane designation for its chicken products, Murray’s Chicken (www.murrayschicken.com) has been named the humane chicken brand of choice for all Food Emporium stores. Murray’s Chicken supplies an array of chicken products including, whole birds, boneless skinless chicken breasts, ground chicken burger and sausages to Food Emporium. The grocery recently reported that the Murray’s whole chicken is the top selling chicken item in its stores. “As more consumers are demanding Certified Humane products, progressive supermarkets like Food Emporium are making them available for their customers,” said Adele Douglass, CEO, Humane Farm Animal Care.

Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of farm animals by certifying their humane treatment. Supported by more than 33 humane organizations, the Certified Humane Raised and Handled program is nationally recognized as the Gold Standard for certifying animal welfare from birth through slaughter. Since the program was unveiled in May 2003, more than 65 companies, representing hundreds of farms and millions of farm animals, have been certified.

HFAC’s Animal Care Standards were developed by a veritable “Who’s Who” of national and international animal scientists and farm-animal welfare experts. Producer compliance with the HFAC standards is verified through annual on-site visits by HFAC’s third-party inspectors.
