Penn Dining

As students filter back onto campus, the University’s professional food service, Penn Dining, can attest that knowledge isn’t the only thing students crave.

In partnership with Bon Appétit Management Company, Penn Dining oversees three residential dining facilities, 10 retail establishments, a kosher dining facility, campus catering, and other campus favorites that keep bellies full and palates pleased.

In this edition of By The Numbers, we take a look at just how much food it takes to keep campus appetites satisfied. (Information provided by theBusiness Services Division, which oversees Penn Dining.)

213 Number of vending machines at Penn. The most-used machine on campus is the Coke machine on the second floor of Huntsman Hall

17,982 Number of packages sold per year of the most popular item in vending machines across campus—Peanut M&Ms.

10,939 Pounds of coffee brewed at Joe’s Cafe and Mark’s Café annually.

3,060 Pounds of apples that are eaten in Penn Dining facilities each year.

104,760 Total number of eggs—that’s 8,730 dozen—eaten on campus each year. The eggs sold via Penn Dining are cage-free and are Certified Humane®.

5,700 Number of cookies eaten per week in Penn’s three residential dining cafés. The cookies are provided through a partnership with the Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises.

20,784 Number of individual yogurts sold in Houston Market in six months. The yogurt comes from Pequea Valley Farm, a small grass-fed cow farm located in Lancaster County.
