Inside: Secret America
Episode: Animal Undercover

The American Food Industry

In recent years, undercover investigations by animal activists have produced shocking videos and have led to changes in the food industry, but now these tactics are the target of new legislation that could criminalize such activities.

Investigative journalists, Mariana van Zeller and her husband Darren Foster explore both sides of the debate and go inside the battle between the animal agriculture industry and the animal rights movement.

They begin their journey in California at the Prather Ranch, a Certified Humane® ranch.

Stress Free Roaming

Prather Ranch is unique in that they emphasize low stress handling of their cattle, providing open pastures to reinforce the cow’s natural behavior. Prather Ranch is the exception not the norm when it comes to cattle farming. Far from the factory farm model, Prather Ranch intends to give the cattle the best life possible while they’re alive, respecting their life and what they provide.
