HERNDON, VA, September 25 2014 – Humane Farm Animal Care,(HFAC) the leading international non-profit certification organization improving the lives of farm animals in food production, announced today that consumers in Brazil and Peru can now find Certified Humane® products in their supermarkets.
The increased presence of Certified Humane® products in supermarkets in the US, Canada, Brazil and Peru has led to the upgrading HFAC’s free mobile app. The “App” which was launched in 2012, now includes Portuguese, Spanish, and French language options for customers in the expanded South American and North American countries.
“In the U.S. alone, in one year, the number of supermarkets carrying Certified Humane® products has doubled as a result of the App,” said Adele Douglass, Executive Director of Humane Farm Animal Care. “The increased presence of Certified Humane® in the international market serves as a testament to the benefits of our program on a global scale,” said Douglass.
Luiz Mazzon, the Director of South American Operations for HFAC said, “The Certified Humane Brazil program has generated a lot of interest from consumers and producers alike. Consumers can buy chicken and eggs in stores throughout Brail. In Peru, we are excited to say that consumers can purchase eggs that are Certified Humane®“ Mazzon said, “We anticipate much more growth.”
With thousands of supermarkets selling Certified Humane® products in the U.S., consumers in Canada, Brazil and Peru should be able to find products wherever they are. The App uses GPS to identify nearby supermarkets and displays them on an interactive map. In addition to supermarkets users can “buy online” from farmers and ranchers who are Certified Humane® certified.
To download the App, go to the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android, search for Certified Humane and then download and open. Visit https://certifiedhumane.org/download-our-mobile-app/ for more information.
The App is operated by Donde. Donde is a mobile marketing toolkit to drive retail sales. Donde was founded by Fabien Allanic and Anthony Nicalo in June 2013. Spurred by the growth of mobile, it has grown from a side project to help people find Certified Humane® foods into mobile marketing platform for global brands and retailers
The Certified Humane® designation assures consumers that meat, poultry, egg or dairy products have been produced according to HFAC’s precise standards for humane farm animal treatment. Animals must receive a nutritious diet without antibiotics or hormones and must be raised with shelter, resting areas and space sufficient to support natural behavior. Since the HFAC program was unveiled in May 2003, more than 100 companies, representing hundreds of farms and millions of farm animals, have been certified.
HFAC’s Animal Care Standards were developed by a veritable “Who’s Who” of national and international animal scientists and farm animal welfare experts. Producer compliance with the HFAC standards is verified through annual on-site visits by HFAC’s third-party inspectors.
Endorsed by more than 66 humane organizations, in the U.S. and Canada, the Certified Humane Raised and Handled© logo is recognized as the “Gold Standard” for certifying animal welfare from birth through slaughter.
