The Franklin Restaurant Group (FRG), owner of the Tasty Burger chain in Boston, said all it took was a trip to Kansas to find out where their beef was coming from to get them to switch to Certified Humane® beef burgers.

“After that experience, we knew we need to find an alternative, and Certified Humane was the natural choice,” said David Dubois. “Becoming a Certified Humane® restaurant helps us to support the farmers that are doing the right thing, and helps us achieve our goal of caring about our food supply and our patrons.”

Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC), the nonprofit that administers the Certified Humane® label, carried in over 7,000 U.S. supermarkets and used by numerous restaurants, said Thursday all three locations of Tasty Burger – Fenway, Southie, and a new location in Harvard Square in Cambridge – are now serving Certified Humane® beef burgers. FRG also owns the Franklin Cafe chain and the Citizen Public House and Oyster Bar benind Fenway Park.

The Certified Humane® designation assures consumers that meat, poultry, egg, or dairy products they purchase have been produced according to HFAC’s standards for humane farm animal treatment.
Animals must receive a nutritious diet without antibiotics or hormones, and must be raised with shelter, resting areas and space sufficient to support natural behavior. Producer compliance with the HFAC standards is verified through annual on-site visits by HFAC’s third-party inspectors.
