WASHINGTON, DC, October 25, 2017 – Oath Pizza, a Boston pizza restaurant that started with its first location in Nantucket in 2015, chose the D.C. area for its first locations outside the Boston area.

Oath Pizza opens Oct. 30 in Merrifield’s Mosaic District, at 2920 District Ave. in Fairfax, Virginia, and will open a second location later this year in D.C.’s Navy Yard neighborhood.

New pizza concepts have to set themselves apart in a crowded field, and Oath Pizza has a couple of things that make it unique. It calls itself the only existing certified-humane pizza restaurant in the country, topping its pizzas with ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients.

(Note: Oath Craft Pizza is the first pizza chain to meet Humane Farm Animal Care’s animal welfare standards and become Certified Humane®.)

Also, it has what it calls a trade secret thin crust, that’s hand-stretched, grilled and seared in avocado oil. Oath also puts philanthropy on its menu, donating some of its proceeds to local causes and organizations. In the case of its forthcoming Mosaic location, it will donate 10 percent of all sales of its seasonal special pizzas to Northern Virginia’s Food for Others.

“I’m super excited to bring Oath Pizza to Northern Virginia and soon to Washington, D.C., because it’s a completely different and unique offering,” said Oath’s CEO Patrik Hellstrand.

“We’re not trying to emulate traditional pizza, and we also aren’t racing to the bottom in the assembly-line fast food pizza space where the value is price and speed along.”

Oath Pizza has six restaurants in the Boston area with plans to double that, adding at least eight locations over the next year.

Oath pizzas cost between $6 for a half classic cheese to $11 for a full special pizza. Its Navy Yard location, which will offer outside seating, will be at 110 M Street SE, and is expected to open in February.
